Attendees will be divided into small breakout rooms where you can ask questions of each of the Mentors, learn more about their craft, and how they got where they are. This is an interactive session where you will be able to engage directly with our guests and ask them anything! We'll also have moderators on hand to keep the conversation flowing, if necessary.

Your ticket will also give you the opportunity to network with other attendees to form important new connections with your peers. We hope that you will be inspired by these incredible writers, and that you will also form valuable connections and friendships.

We are increasing accessibility to this event by utilising a sliding scale for ticket prices. A full-price ticket to this event is $35. By purchasing a ticket for $45, you sponsor an additional seat for $25.

Meet the Mentors!

Jessie Gabe

JESSIE GABE is a Television Writer/Executive Producer who began her screenwriting career on BEING ERICA (CBC). She garnered a Writer’s Guild of Canada award, a Canadian Comedy award, and two Gemini nominations (including one win) for her work on the show. In 2012, Jessie was awarded the Bell Media National Fellowship Award of Distinction. She joined the MR. D (CBC/Hulu) writing staff in its second season and quickly moved up to Showrunner/Executive Producer. Jessie also directed her first episode of network television on the show. Her first feature film CAS & DYLAN was directed by Jason Priestley and starred Richard Dreyfuss and Tatiana Maslany. She has since adapted and directed a series of short films based on material from the Globe & Mail’s “First Person” column, and written for FRANKIE DRAKE (CBC), HUDSON & REX (CityTV), RUN THE BURBS (CBC), SPENCER SISTERS (CTV), and WORKIN’ MOMS (CBC/NETFLIX), on which she recently served as Executive Producer/Co-Showrunner/Director for its final season. Jessie is currently Showrunner/Executive Producer on the upcoming comedy series ONE MORE TIME (CBC) and is in development on several television and film projects.

Anita Kapila

Anita Kapila is one of Canada’s most experienced comedy writer/producers with over 100 episodes of prime-time comedy under her belt. Anita has served as Executive Producer on a variety of popular sitcoms, including three seasons of CTV’s Children Ruin Everything and two seasons of CBC’s Strays. She served as co-executive producer on CBC’s hit comedies Kim’s Convenience, Son of a Critch, and Mr. D, among others.

Winner of a Canadian Screen Award and a Writer’s Guild Award, Anita is passionate about writing character driven comedy, with a particular focus on female and BIPOC characters.Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Amanda Brooke Perrin

Amanda Brooke Perrin has written for shows that have appeared on Hulu, Netflix, Disney and CBC and worked alongside The Kids in the Hall, Jay Baruchel and SCTV alum Catherine O’Hara.  Getting her start in improv and sketch, she's performed at stand up comedy festivals around the world including Just For Laughs, The Bridgetown Comedy Festival, JFL42, NXNE, The Women In Comedy Festival and Sled Island. She won Best Female Stand Up in NOW magazine and her debut comedy album “AKA Randy” hit #1 on the Canadian Comedy iTunes charts.

In 2016 she moderated for the critically acclaimed Trump VS. Bernie at The Opera House in Toronto and has been featured on Andy Kindler's Alternative Show. Most recently, Amanda was co-creator of The Popularity Papers (based on the book series by Amy Ignatow) a young adult series that can be seen on YTV and StackTv. Kathleen Harquail

Kathleen (she/her) is an experienced policy advisor, workplace consultant and change maker.  As an independent film producer, Kathleen focuses on queer stories and projects led by women and non-binary folks. Kathleen has a degree in Hispanic Studies, a diploma in screenwriting, and is a graduate of WIFT’s Media Business Essentials program. Kathleen lives in Toronto with her anxiety and sense of humo(u)r.
