The Firecracker Department Annual Brunch on Saturday September 07, at the Centre for Social Innovation (aka CSI), 720 Bathurst St. includes many community-based activities, such as;
Fundraising Auction – This online auction offers artwork or services of female and nonbinary creators, integrating the work of established and novice artists. The money raised will go towards supporting scholarships for our workshops or mentorship programs, and for the content creation we are dreaming up for 2024/2025. A portion of proceeds goes to supporting other charities within our community.
Creative Action Table – People may sit and draw, or they can write a note to themselves making a commitment to a goal for next year. We tuck that page into an envelope and keep it safe. When they return to open it the next year, they can reflect on the objective they set for themselves. Accountability is so helpful in the arts.
Thrifty Clothes – Throughout the year, our members engage in clothing exchanges. At the Annual Brunch, we gather red clothing items, to highlight our branding and put everything on sale for $20. The leftovers are donated to charity.
The Blaze Award is presented to a woman or nonbinary person who is making amazing strides in their career on many different platforms and contributing to their community. Past recipients are Jann Arden, Michelle Buteau, Jo Vannicola, Amanda Brugel and Jennifer Podemski.
The Red Point Award goes to someone over 50 who is paving the way with their creations and being a great community leader. Past recipients are Jennifer Holness and Annie Bradley.
The Writer’s Booth – New this year! People are invited to present their log lines, concepts and practice their pitches. This is a great opportunity to clarify your story ideas, gain valuable feedback and share resources. Hosted by the Head of our Writing Department, Liesl Lafferty.
