About the Artist’s Way

The Artist’s Way is a book by Julia Cameron. First published in 1992, it’s gained a devoted fan base in the past 30 years.

The Artist’s Way challenges you to confront your creative blocks. Thoughtfully constructed by Cameron, the book contains endless food for thought around the concept of creativity. She discusses the notion of creativity and how many of us struggle with the feeling that we have no control over when inspiration strikes. Through tasks and exercises, like “the Morning Pages” and “Artist’s Dates”, she aims to help you move through what’s holding you back.

FAQs

  • NO! This programme is geared to anyone who wants to explore what creativity means to their life, and to break down the barriers to being freer with our creative selves.

  • While The Firecracker Department runs many events that are open to everyone, our core mission is to support female and non-binary creatives. This event is reserved for those who identify as such. If you do not fall into that category, please contact Veronica Martin at veronica@veronicaannemartin.ca to find an Artist’s Way course that’s right for you!

  • The ability to join our zoom meetings and our private group chat. A smart phone or a computer will work great for this. You'll need paper - a simple, dollar store 81/2x11 workbook is perfect - and something to write with. Julia Cameron's book The Artist's Way can be purchased, downloaded or borrowed from a library.

  • Julia Cameron has written from her perspective, and that involves a belief in a Creator. It comes up, and I encourage sharing thoughts on how this programme can fit many belief or non-belief systems. We do not approach the material from any religious or spiritual perspective.

  • There's no denying the benefits of checking in with a group who are going through the same programme as you. That being said, it’s your own personal journey and we want to support you in it, in whatever way you can commit your time!

  • PLEASE join the meetings anyways! I promise you'll benefit from being with your people whether you've read the chapter or done any exercises. It's not school!
